Aging LGBT Adults in California

Aging LGBTQ adults in California are living longer and healthier lives than ever before. Thanks to the state's progressive policies and welcoming culture, LGBTQ adults are able to age comfortably and with peace of mind.

The California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) is the most significant health survey in the state, and the 2015-2016 survey included a particular module on aging and health among LGBTQ adults. The results of the survey are very encouraging, and they show that LGBTQ adults in California are enjoying longer healthier lives.

Some of the key findings of the survey include:

· LGBTQ adults in California are more likely to be insured than adults in other states

· LGBTQ adults in California are less likely to smoke cigarettes, and they are more likely to have healthy diets

· LGBTQ adults in California are more likely to get regular exercise

In 2015-2016, California became the first state in the US to add questions about sexual orientation and gender identity to the California health interview survey (CHIS). This was a groundbreaking move that allowed for better data collection on the health needs of LGBTQ adults in the state.

Since then, the data collected has been used to improve the health and well-being of LGBTQ adults in California. For example, the data has helped to identify disparities in healthcare access and health outcomes for LGBTQ adults. Additionally, the data has been used to create culturally competent care programs that are inclusive of LGBTQ adults.

The addition of these questions to the CHIS survey has been a critical step in ensuring that LGBTQ adults in California are getting the care and services they need. Thanks to this data, we are one step closer to achieving health equity for all Californians.
